Bono's excuse to album flop

In March of this year when U2 released their 12th album "No Line On The Horizon" , there was a sense of confidence this CD might just contain the attributes to put the group back on the music map.
After it's release, an approximate one million copies were reportedly sold worldwide, which was a huge positive. But since then, the "tide" has turned, as sales for the album significantly have tumbled down to a point where band leader Bono has come out in public and issued statements of frustration.
In a recent statement, Bono claimed regrets of disappointment the band did not hold off the pop songs from their latest record.
Would it have made a huge difference? Absolutely not! First of all, Bono need's to look in the mirror and recognize the band has well surpassed their prime. Second, setting the bar high is one thing, but accomplishing the same feat for this aging group is an entire different scenario.
U2 are arguably one of the greatest bands of all time and they've earned that respect. But as it is the case with most of life's finest, all good things eventually come to a conclusion and this is no exception when it comes to "pioneer' music groups like U2.
"No line On The Horizon" may not have peaked to the band's expected standards, but it is an adequate recording with 4-5 solid pieces enough worth while for people to purchase the CD.
The band has already recorded a new album "Songs Of Ascent', which is to be released in 2010, but not even a "crystal ball" can predict what kind of success this CD will have at the cash registers, nor what kind of excuse Bono will implement if this album will also crash.
